Step 1 – Measuring and Marking

The very first thing that you need to do is to measure the height of the cabinet. After you are done, mount the laser level on the tripod about a couple of inches away from the wall where you will install the cabinets. Place the tripod on a table if the tripod is not high enough. A laser level allows you to find the high and low spots, thus, helping you to decide where to start.

After setting the determined height in the tripod, you may turn the laser level on. The device will project a laser beam, forming a virtual chalk line on the wall. If you feel the need to mark the laser beam, draw the line along the beam carefully. By using the right laser level in installing cabinets, it saves you a huge deal of time in the leveling part. Another trick with the uppers, leave about a 1/8” gap between the ceiling and the cabinet to give you a bit of leeway when you are trying to level them.

Mount the support board, or sometimes called as ledger board, on the wall right at the studs. During the installation process, this ledger board will temporarily support the weight of the cabinets. Place this board just below the base of the cabinets that will be installed. Since the ledger board supports the weight, you can only remove this board after you are done installing the whole cabinets.

Step 3 – Installing the Cabinets

Before installing the cabinets, remove the hardware and the doors to make them lighter. Attach the two cabinets with screws using a screw gun. Attach one screw at the top and another at the bottom sides to secure the cabinets. A bubble level is also handy to check if the cabinets are aligned perfectly or not.
